Quakerism

The Religious Society of Friends (also termed Quakerism) is a Christian sect founded in 1640s England by George Fox. Followers of the faith typically refer to themselves as Friends or Quakers.

Basic tenets of the Quaker faith include pacifism, simplicity, integrity, egalitarianism (rejection of hierarchy, equality of the sexes, long-standing disdain for racism and slavery) ...hence the fanlisting's name.

Worship services (termed "Meeting for Worship") typically take place on a Sunday and last for about an hour. Services are usually held in a designated meeting house, or sometimes inside a Friend's home if the congregation is small. Traditional (unprogrammed) worship consists of a group of Friends gathering together in "expectant waiting" for divine leadings. If a Friend feels lead to do so, s/he may stand up and share a message (give "vocal ministry") with those gathered. Modern (programmed) worship is much like typical Protestant worship services in the United States, with a pastor presiding over the service, reading from scripture, hymns, and a sermon.
